My Small-Step Map

Break an everyday task into a few manageable choices.

Ages 5–8

How to use

  1. Pick a small everyday task together, such as putting books away. Draw the task at the top of the page. Avoid choosing a personal fear for your child.
  2. Make three boxes: “First”, “Next”, and “Someone who can help”. Draw or write one idea in each box. The first step can be very small.
  3. Try one step. Notice the effort rather than speed. You can change the plan, ask for support or leave the next step for another time.
